About Us

Our dedication and love of this breed began in 1996. Our fascination grew when we started competing in the conformation show ring as an enjoyable hobby. From this hobby an obsession grew to learn as much as possible about this unique breed. It would be foolish to claim to know it all and experience has taught us that one never stops learning.

"Teddikuma" derives its name from a mixture of English and Japanese. "Teddy" as in the cuddly toy bear and "Kuma" the Japanese word for bear. Translated "Teddikuma" means "Teddy bear". We feel that all Akita puppies resemble little teddy bears and are simply irresistible. They all seem to beg for cuddles and kisses and it's impossible to resist.

Our home can be found in the picturesque and tranquil rural country side of Rossmore, just an hours drive west from Sydney. Here, my husband Hans and myself (Trudy) work hard and tirelessly to support, groom, feed and amuse our family of Akitas. In return for this, we are given unconditional love and dedication, not to mention free security. It is not our aim to become the biggest Akita breeder, so therefore our litters are very limited. Our standards are extremely high and are only exceeded by our love and dedication to this breed.

We would never be so blatant to say it is impossible to produce a health problem in our puppies. However to minimise those risks, all Teddikuma Akitas are eye and teeth certified, hip/elbow scored and patella's checked. Our puppies come with written lifetime guarantees and are sold strictly under contract. Pet puppy Akitas have a spay/neuter clause in the contract.
